Greeting (also called accosting) is an act of communication in which human beings (as well as other members of the animal kingdom) intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship or social status between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with each other. While greeting customs are highly culture- and situation-specific and may change within a culture depending on social status and relationship, they exist in all known human cultures. Greetings can be expressed both audibly and physically, and often involve a combination of the two. This topic excludes military and ceremonial salutes but includes rituals other than gestures. Greetings are often, but not always, used just prior to a conversation. Some epochs and cultures have had very elaborate greeting rituals, e.g., greeting of a king. Secret societies have clandestine greeting rituals that allow members to recognize common membership. From Wikipedia under the

The vast majority of greeting card writers work part-time as independent contractors, freelancing their work to greeting card publishers on a piece work basis. The pay for an individual card can range from anywhere between $50 to $250. To get started as a greeting card writer you should have a portfolio of ideas ready for submission. We're not talking about a finished product here. We're talking about your ideas and the creativity behind those ideas. Publishers will have their own preferred method of receiving submissions, and at the time you can prepare your work to meet their individual submission standards. There are several ways to get your ideas in front of publishing company editors. One of the easiest methods is to utilize the… [cont.] Answered by ny - Tue Apr 7 14:48:52 2009 name and address of the charity that recycles the fronts of greeting cards?

At one time I sent my greeting card fronts to Saint Jude's Children's Ranch in Boulder City, Nevada. I am enclosing what I found on their website: Card Program Overflowing In recent months the outpouring of support for the children of St. Jude s Ranch through our Recycled Card Program has been overwhelming! We have received over one million parcels containing card fronts and this is far more than we can now use. In fact, the cost associated with handling so many cards is beginning to draw from funds that are needed to care for our children. Our kids are buried in cards! Some of our children do continue to make and sell cards but St. Jude's Ranch for Children no longer accepts used card fronts.
