How do I start my own Greeting Card company in California?
Q. I have this great idea to publish these cards that I haven't seen any where on the net or in the stores. But I don't know what to do to get started or what the requirements are for starting it. Does anyone have any advice or any helpful hints? I have 13 cards so far but my motivation level is dropping. I've been online and I've done the research but I can't find anything that states the actual steps that I need to take in order to start my own business. I see alot of articles that tell you how to submit your own 'writings' to other greeting card companies...and that's not what I need. I need to know what actual steps that I need to take in order to start my own greeting card business. any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Cyn

A. Step 1. Decide the business model you want. You direct to the end user via the web, or you to a wholesaler like the corner card store, or you to Hallmark. Step 2. Decide on the form factor. Fan fold vertical, or horizontal or just the card with no open flap. Step 3.Decide how to take orders. Most larger groups use the ANSI X12 electronic ordering system. With distribution via the web or via a more direct model you can take 1-800 orders -- who will answer the phone. Step 4. Decide on the quality. High and low volume, or low and higher volume. For example, are the graphics on photo paper or printed direct to the card stock. Step 5. Decide on a printing company. Step 6. Decide if you want to sell internationally. Hope this gets you… [cont.]

How can I make a greeting card with a window in it?
Q. I am trying to make greeting cards with a 2"x2" "window" in the middle (to put a photo). Is there any way I can do this besides using a cutting knife? I heard of those square punches used for scrapbooking but I don't think I'll be able to get the square in the middle of the card if I use that.
Asked by kmm100 - Wed Nov 7 22:04:26 2007 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. There are several possibilities for this... A punch that can be centered and cutting with a knife, like you already mentioned. Also, there are diecutting systems like Fiskars, or Coluzzle that will cut squares. There's also the option of buying cards that already have the square cut out. Oh, one more. Scrapbook stores sometimes let you use their diecuts, if you buy the paper from them.

How do you change your personal greeting on motorla i335?
Q. I want to change my personal greeting on my motorola i335. I have a message that is downloaded and not a voice recording using the voice record. I know it can be done, just not sure of how to access the message once I get it to my phone. Does anyone know the correct procedure for doing this?

A. First call voice mail (put only 1 and call). It may say you have some new voice mail, but forget about that. It will give you an option of personal options. Choose that one. Then go to greetings. Then record a new greeting. Simple as that. I think it might be different for each service. I have Sprint, and i think it will be different for each service.

How do I submit my ideas to a greeting card business?
Q. I have been designing inspirational postcards, greeting cards, and pocket size inspiration cards. Now, I need customers. =-) Any ideas where to start? I am a single mother of three children and am working on no income. I do everything from my home office and basically need to know how I can jump in to the market on fixed resources. Any information or ideas would be very much appreciated! FYI: I do have my own online business at desertrosedesign.net which I pay for monthly. I am trying to drive traffic to my site, and having little luck there. Does anyone know where I can find a list of Greeting Card companies for free rather than paying the $50-$100 most places are charging for that list?

Q. I am trying to make a business making and selling handmade greeting cards. I was wondering how I can get started and where can I sell that kind of thing. Hope that gives you some ideas. Good Luck

A. Post Cards usually have some sort of can be undivided or divided, but usually have a place where it notes postage is due. Post cards started out as personal mailing cards and would be hard to tell from a single sided greeting card. Pick up a book on collecting post cards and learn the difference in age from card to card. I'd suggest The Postcard Price Guide by J L Mashburn. Please what ever you decide, post card or greeting card, don't just slap a stamp on it and pop it in the mail.

A. Market your cards on your local cable channel. Place an ad in your local Pennysaver magazine and send some of your cards to your friends so they can possibly display them for you. Word of mouth goes a long way. Also think about renting a cart at your local mall and display all of your cards on your cart so the general public can see what you have to sell.

How do I go about marketing my own line of greeting cards?
Q. I have been drawing, scratching, around on paper as long as I can remember. I have used many other expressive mediums of Art as well. It has been a dream of mine to have my own line of greeting cards that no one else has to offer. I am at the point right now that I am confident in my workings where I believe I am good enough to pull that off. I have several original characters of my own that I believe will work well togather with some carefully composed text to convey Heart felt emotion.

A. i did a few drawings for a card maker once and considered doing it myself at one point. if you are printing them and marketing them to big shops yourself, then you will need to invest in printing a lot of them because if they say "yes" you need to be prepared. you can also search out independent shops or build a website if you don't have a lot of money to invest to start. otherwise you can look for publishers to do the printing and distribution for you. good luck and dream big!

Where can I get some copyright free information on making greeting cards?
Q. My wife makes greeting cards as a hobby and I have created a website for her to show off her creations. I would also like to add some tutorials on how to make cards, and information about the products and equipment available, techniques and styles, etc. My wife is too busy making cards to write and I don't know enough about it myself to write anything of merit. Do you know of any websites, ebooks, etc, with relevant information that I can copy onto my website? Obviously, they would need to be copyright free or public domain. I wouldn't mind spending some money for a good ebook as long as I would have the right to extract information and display it on the site. If anyone has written anything that I can use, I'd be grateful if you… [cont.]

A. Why not just include links to other sites such as docrafts. Cardmaking is now a massively popular hobby and there is plenty of info around. Half a dozen monthly magazines, lots of books (check the local library), Craft & Create and QVC on Sky and the internet, evening classes, workshops, etc. etc. Mention your local craft shop(s). Your wife's internet suppliers. There is no need to go to a lot of trouble reinventing the wheel.
